Machinery Condition Health Check
for Compressors, Pumps, Turbines, Engines, and Gearboxes
Facility operators may require an evaluation of the health of their compressors, engines, pumps and associated piping system. This assessment may be needed during an asset handover (e.g., change in operator) or during a strategic operations review.
This independent review will deliver the following:
- Report card on the machinery condition – includes many technical factors and inputs
- Recommendations
- For repair vs. replacement (based on technical factors only)
- Related to maintenance
- For reliability, performance, and integrity

1 Objective and Scope
1.1 Objective
The objective of a machine condition (health) assessment is to provide the following:
- Assess selected machinery and piping system assets to ensure fitness for operation for the next 20 years
- Identify weak links and current or potential hazards and recommend suitable actions to mitigate risks
- Establish a replacement/upgrade plan based on health condition or obsolescence
1.2 Scope
The scope of work includes:
- Inspect machinery, piping, foundation, and auxiliaries by experts
- Provide performance history and analysis based on key performance measures
- Review maintenance practices, history, and policy
- Evaluate machinery improvements, upgrade, or replacement
- Assess reliability and monitoring processes for machines and piping systems
This assessment includes many of VDN’s other field services coordinated to ensure an integrated and complete machinery health check that includes performance, vibration, maintenance, and reliability.
2 Wood Advantages
- Objectivity Wood VDN is not aligned with any machinery OEM and provides impartial evaluations and recommendations.
- Expertise With almost 50 years of machinery analysis, VDN has the tools, procedures, and experience in performing condition assessments. As a result of analyzing over 10,000 machines, we have a well-developed methodology for assessing reliability and performance for compressor systems, pumps, and engines, including the associated piping, heat exchangers, separators, filters, and controls.
- Capabilities Our multi-discipline teams have skills in vibration, performance, troubleshooting, piping, RCM, RCA, and design engineering. These competencies are required for proper condition assessment services.
