- BETA Machinery Analysis was acquired by Wood Group in June 2015. BETA is the market leader in analyzing machinery vibration, pulsation, surge and dynamics. Based on nearly 50 years of experience, the company has grown into an industry leader in compressor and pump vibration studies, including troubleshooting, site support and vibration solutions, with offices in the US, Canada, Southeast Asia and China. About BETA
- SVT Engineering Consultants, based in Australia, was acquired by Wood Group in April 2016. The acquisition of SVT added more than 100 experts in the areas of rotating equipment reliability, integrity engineering, noise, and other vibration services to the team. SVT is a market leader in the Australian and Asian regions; known for delivering reliability and operational improvements with its mining, LNG, and oil and gas expertise. About SVT
- UK Group, established in January 2016 with capabilities in advanced vibration and engineering, and structural integrity, Wood Group opened a new office in Southampton, as well as having experts based in other regional offices including London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. The group is comprised of industry leaders in piping vibration, integrity and fatigue, with extensive knowledge in subsea piping systems. They have written piping vibration standards, lead joint industry projects (JIPs), and provide advanced simulation and problem solving support globally. About the UK VDN team
In building this team, Wood Group brought together the most qualified experts in the various vibration disciplines. The combination of the three teams has created many synergies and complementary capabilities in areas such as analysis software, specialist design and field service capabilities, and technical knowledge. It is energizing for our staff to work with the best and most experienced technical experts. The table below illustrates -Wood Group’s expanded capability offering within the area of VDN.
What does this mean for you?
Here are a few examples:
- Complete service offering. Wood Group now offers the most comprehensive vibration, dynamics and noise solution set, including advanced piping fatigue analyses, multiphase analyses, subsea vibration, noise services, integrity engineering, machinery dynamics, surge, monitoring and maintenance and reliability services.
- Simplified approach - Our integrated service portfolio ensures our customers only work with one supplier, thereby avoiding problems associated with coordinating multiple consultants, each with different approaches and methods.
- Regional support. Customers need local support; having someone nearby and in the same time zone is invaluable. With the global reach of Wood Group, we always have someone available to talk when required, providing a faster response to your needs and helping your projects run smoother.
- Significant R&D investment. Our research projects yield tangible benefits, including better, faster, cheaper and more effective technical solutions. Less conservative results mean lower costs to customers. Refer to the attached article for examples of ongoing research initiatives.
- Economies of scale in delivery. With the depth of talent and resources, Wood Group has the capacity to take on larger and more complex projects. Another benefit is that we have standardized processes, resulting in lower delivery costs, and higher quality work.
Wood Group synergies
Another new feature is our ability to work closely with Wood Group’s other technical services. Working together as a combined team allows us to offer better solutions to our customers, and reduces the hassles and costs involved in managing different consulting contracts.
Here are a few examples:
- Integrity management. Vibration-induced fatigue failure is one of the most common failure modes, and linking with our integrity management services ensures a more effective integrity and reliability program, and fewer hydrocarbon releases.
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Many advanced dynamic analyses require CFD simulation. Wood Group provides a world-class team of CFD experts with techniques that allow quick and cost-effective support to our dynamic piping and machine analyses.
- Process solutions. Process changes also affect piping, machinery and structural dynamics. The two areas can be linked, especially when looking at different operating scenarios at production facilities.
- Maintenance management processes. Wood Group Operational Technical Solutions (OTS) helps operators define maintenance best practices, and update their database as the system changes. These activities closely interact with our condition and performance monitoring and reliability services.
We want to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to our customers as we have made the transition into the Wood Group family. The same people, passion and culture remain within the VDN service line, and we can now do even more than in the past. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the transition and our plans.
